Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government to improve infrastructure and address flooding challenges across the state.
The governor made this known after receiving the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, alongside members of the National Assembly Committee on Works, at Lagos House, Marina.
During the meeting, both parties discussed ways to ensure that the Lagos State drainage master plan aligns with the ongoing federal coastal highway project. According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, proper coordination between the state’s drainage infrastructure and the coastal highway construction is essential to effectively tackle seasonal flooding in vulnerable communities.
He noted that synchronising both projects would help improve water management, protect public infrastructure, and minimise the impact of heavy rainfall on residents and businesses. The governor stressed that collaboration between the federal and state governments remains critical to delivering sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of the state’s rapidly growing population.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that continued cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Works and the National Assembly Committee on Works would accelerate the successful implementation of strategic projects that will enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and improve the quality of life for Lagos residents.
The governor further reiterated his administration’s resolve to prioritise investments in resilient infrastructure capable of supporting long-term urban development while addressing environmental challenges such as flooding.
He added that Lagos would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders at all levels to ensure that major infrastructure projects are executed efficiently and in a manner that complements the state’s development agenda.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both the Lagos State and Federal Governments to building a more connected, resilient and prosperous Lagos through effective planning, strategic partnerships and coordinated infrastructure development.
