Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has encouraged young people in the state to embrace entrepreneurship by building sustainable and globally competitive businesses within the creative industry rather than depending solely on paid employment.
The governor said the creative sector offers enormous opportunities for innovation, wealth creation and economic growth, urging youths to harness their talents and transform them into thriving enterprises capable of competing on the global stage.
Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos remains Nigeria’s creative capital, providing a conducive environment for filmmakers, musicians, fashion designers, digital creators, visual artists and other creative professionals to flourish. He stressed that the state’s growing investment in infrastructure, technology and innovation is aimed at creating an ecosystem where young entrepreneurs can succeed.
According to the governor, the future belongs to young people who are willing to develop their skills, embrace innovation and create solutions that address societal needs. He urged aspiring creatives to focus on building brands and businesses that generate employment opportunities for others while contributing to the state’s economy.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the creative industry through policies and programmes that encourage innovation, skills development and access to opportunities. He said the government would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen the sector and ensure that talented young people receive the support needed to expand their businesses.
The governor also advised youths to remain resilient, disciplined and committed to continuous learning, describing creativity as one of Lagos’ greatest economic assets. He added that with determination, innovation and the right support, young entrepreneurs can build businesses that attract international recognition and investment.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated that empowering youths through entrepreneurship remains a key pillar of his administration’s development agenda, expressing confidence that the next generation of globally successful creative businesses will emerge from Lagos.
