
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has convened a meeting of the State Security Council as part of proactive measures to maintain peace, public safety and stability following heightened political tensions in parts of the state.
The meeting brought together heads of security agencies and other critical stakeholders to review the prevailing security situation and strengthen strategies for preserving law and order across Lagos. Discussions focused on intelligence gathering, coordinated operations and measures to prevent any breakdown of peace.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of vigilance and collaboration among security agencies, noting that Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial hub, must remain safe and secure for residents, businesses and visitors. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring that lawful political activities are conducted peacefully.
The governor urged political actors, supporters and residents to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of inciting violence or disrupting public order. He emphasized that disagreements should be resolved through lawful and democratic means, adding that security agencies have been directed to remain alert and respond swiftly to any threat to public peace.
Members of the Security Council assured the governor of their readiness to work together in maintaining security across the state. They pledged to intensify surveillance, improve intelligence sharing and deploy personnel where necessary to forestall any attempt to undermine public safety.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to sustaining a secure environment that supports economic activities and allows residents to go about their daily lives without fear. It also called on citizens to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and avoiding the spread of misinformation that could escalate tensions.
The meeting underscored the government’s determination to remain proactive in addressing security concerns while preserving the peaceful atmosphere for which Lagos is known.
