Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on federal regulatory agencies and institutions in Nigeria’s energy sector to strengthen collaboration with state governments to accelerate the nation’s energy development and improve access to reliable power.
Speaking on Friday, the governor stressed that closer cooperation between federal and state authorities is essential to unlocking the full potential of the energy sector. He noted that effective partnerships would help create a more efficient regulatory environment, encourage private sector investment, and drive sustainable economic growth.
Sanwo-Olu said state governments are strategically positioned to complement federal efforts by providing the necessary infrastructure, creating investment-friendly policies, and addressing local energy challenges. According to him, stronger collaboration will ensure that energy projects are implemented more efficiently and deliver greater benefits to communities across the country.
The governor emphasized that improving energy infrastructure remains critical to Nigeria’s industrialisation, job creation, and overall economic competitiveness. He added that states are ready to work closely with federal institutions to expand energy access, support innovation, and promote cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
Sanwo-Olu also reiterated Lagos State’s commitment to advancing initiatives that strengthen energy security and support national development. He explained that the state has continued to invest in infrastructure and policies aimed at attracting investments into the energy sector while creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
He urged all stakeholders, including regulators, policymakers, investors, and industry operators, to embrace collaboration as the key to overcoming the country’s energy challenges. According to the governor, a coordinated approach between all levels of government will not only improve electricity supply but also stimulate economic activities, enhance productivity, and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
The governor maintained that a united effort in the energy sector would position Nigeria to achieve long-term energy sustainability and economic prosperity.
