The Lagos State Government has announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to facilitate repair works on a damaged section of the road by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The closure, which takes effect as scheduled by the authorities, is aimed at ensuring the successful rehabilitation of the affected portion of the expressway while maintaining the safety of motorists and road users throughout the construction period.
According to the state government, only part of the carriageway will be closed, allowing traffic to continue flowing on the remaining lanes under a carefully managed traffic arrangement. Motorists have been advised to expect delays and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to the area.
The government urged commuters to plan their journeys ahead, consider alternative routes where possible, and exercise patience throughout the four-week repair period. Traffic officers and other relevant agencies will be on ground to regulate vehicular movement and minimise congestion.
Officials explained that the repair work is necessary to restore the structural integrity of the damaged section of the expressway and improve the safety and durability of one of Lagos’ busiest transport corridors. The project is expected to enhance the road’s condition and provide smoother movement for motorists upon completion.
The Lagos State Government appealed to residents and road users to comply with all traffic advisories and obey directional signs around the construction zone. It also assured the public that every effort would be made to complete the repairs within the stipulated timeframe while reducing inconvenience to commuters.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Federal Ministry of Works to maintain critical road infrastructure across the state, noting that the temporary disruption is necessary to ensure a safer and more reliable transportation network for all road users.
