Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inspected ongoing renovation and rehabilitation works at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, ahead of the inaugural National Intermediate Sports Festival.
The inspection was part of the State Government’s preparations to ensure that Lagos is fully ready to host young athletes from across the country. The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the stadium and the ongoing upgrade of key sporting facilities.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the investment in modern and quality sports infrastructure is driven by the administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to discover, develop and maximise their sporting talents.
He said the rehabilitation of Teslim Balogun Stadium and other sports facilities across Lagos would provide athletes with a conducive environment to train, compete and build successful careers in sports.
The Governor emphasised that sports remains an important platform for youth development, empowerment and national unity, stressing that young people deserve access to standard facilities where they can nurture their talents and compete confidently at local, national and international levels.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to grassroots sports development, noting that the administration will continue to invest in sporting infrastructure and create platforms for young athletes to thrive.
He expressed optimism that the National Intermediate Sports Festival would provide an opportunity for talented young athletes to showcase their abilities, gain valuable competitive experience and inspire other young Nigerians to pursue their dreams in sports.
The Governor assured that Lagos is prepared to welcome participants from across the country and provide them with quality facilities and an enabling environment for a successful festival.
He added that the State would continue to prioritise the development of sports facilities across different communities as part of efforts to build a strong pipeline of future athletes for Lagos and Nigeria.
