Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed the need for Nigerians to support difficult but necessary economic decisions being taken to secure a stronger and more sustainable future for the country.
Sanwo-Olu stated this while speaking at the 7th Freedom Online Newspaper Lecture, where he highlighted the importance of ongoing economic reforms and investments aimed at positioning Nigeria for long-term growth and development.
The Governor explained that while some of the decisions being implemented may be challenging in the short term, they are necessary to create a stronger economic foundation for future generations.
According to him, the country is beginning to witness positive signs from the reforms, including economic growth and increased investment targeted at young Nigerians.
Sanwo-Olu maintained that the progress being recorded should encourage Nigerians to remain committed to the process, stressing that meaningful transformation requires patience, consistency and difficult choices.
He said the government’s efforts are focused not only on strengthening the economy but also on creating opportunities for young people to develop their skills, pursue entrepreneurship and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Governor emphasised that investing in Nigeria’s youth remains critical to the country’s future, noting that young Nigerians represent a significant source of innovation, creativity and economic potential.
He urged stakeholders across the public and private sectors to continue supporting initiatives that promote economic opportunities and empower young people.
Sanwo-Olu also called for sustained collaboration among government, businesses, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to ensure that the gains from ongoing reforms translate into improved living standards for Nigerians.
He expressed optimism about the direction of the Nigerian economy, noting that the progress being witnessed demonstrates that the country is moving towards a more resilient and productive future.
The Governor said the current challenges should be viewed within the broader objective of building an economy capable of delivering sustainable prosperity.
He reiterated his confidence that the tough decisions being made today would ultimately contribute to a stronger Nigeria, with greater opportunities for its citizens, particularly the younger generation.
