Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned newly constructed hostel facilities at the Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare education and strengthening the state’s medical workforce.
The new facilities are designed to provide student nurses with a safe, modern and conducive environment where they can live, study and develop professionally throughout their training.
Speaking during the commissioning, Sanwo-Olu described the project as an important investment in the future of healthcare delivery in Lagos State. He noted that providing appropriate accommodation for healthcare trainees would enhance their welfare and create better conditions for learning.
According to the governor, the quality of healthcare available to residents is closely linked to the quality of training received by medical and nursing professionals. He therefore stressed the importance of providing students with the necessary facilities to support their academic and professional development.
Sanwo-Olu said the new hostel accommodation would help create a more comfortable environment for student nurses while allowing them to focus more effectively on their studies and clinical training.
He emphasised that investment in healthcare infrastructure goes beyond hospitals and medical equipment, noting that the welfare and development of healthcare professionals must also remain a priority.
The governor said the commissioning formed part of his administration’s broader efforts to deliver practical projects that have a direct impact on the lives of Lagos residents.
He added that well-trained and properly supported healthcare professionals would ultimately benefit communities across the state by contributing to improved healthcare services.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s determination to continue investing in critical infrastructure across different sectors, particularly projects that strengthen human capacity and improve public service delivery.
He said every completed project represents another step toward building a stronger, more reliable and sustainable Lagos.
The governor expressed confidence that the new hostel facilities would contribute positively to the students’ overall experience and support the development of competent nursing professionals who will serve Lagos and Nigeria in the future.
