Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining the state’s development trajectory, following a meeting with traditional rulers in Ikorodu Division.
Sanwo-Olu, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, visited the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and other respected royal fathers across the division.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the governor and his deputy to interact with the traditional institution and receive their views and support on the political and developmental direction of Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and Hamzat by the monarchs, describing their backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hamzat and other Lagos APC candidates as significant to the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections.
The governor also used the occasion to highlight Hamzat’s contribution to the administration, describing his deputy as a dependable partner in governing Lagos State.
According to Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat’s wealth of experience, institutional knowledge and steady leadership have positioned him as a suitable candidate to continue the state’s development agenda when the current administration concludes its tenure.
He said Hamzat has worked closely with him over the years, contributing to the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, transportation, healthcare, education and other critical sectors of the state.
Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of maintaining continuity in governance, noting that Lagos had made significant progress and should not be subjected to uncertainty or disruption.
“Lagos is simply too important to leave to chance,” the governor said, emphasising the need for collective efforts to preserve the gains recorded by successive administrations.
He added that the political engagements were part of broader efforts to build unity and strengthen support for the All Progressives Congress ahead of 2027.
The governor also expressed confidence that continued collaboration among political leaders, traditional institutions and residents would help ensure that Lagos sustains its development momentum.
