Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships (PPPs) as a key strategy for accelerating the development of Central Business Districts (CBDs) across the state and boosting the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The governor made this known at a Central Business District (CBD) Stakeholders’ Summit themed “Rebranding and Revitalising Lagos CBDs: Strategies for Sustainable Growth and Development.” The event was held on Wednesday at the MUSON Centre, Onikan. Sanwo-Olu was represented at the summit by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
In his address, the governor noted that well-developed CBDs are critical to Lagos’ economic competitiveness, urban renewal agenda, and job creation efforts. He explained that the state government is prioritising collaboration with the private sector to unlock investment opportunities, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall business environment within Lagos’ commercial hubs.
Sanwo-Olu said his administration is deepening public-private collaboration to finance and execute critical infrastructure projects, streamline regulatory processes, and deploy modern, technology-driven solutions that will make it easier for businesses—particularly SMEs—to thrive. According to him, these efforts are designed to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, improve service delivery, and attract both local and foreign investors to Lagos’ business districts.
He emphasised that SMEs remain the backbone of the state’s economy and must be supported through access to modern infrastructure, efficient transport systems, reliable utilities, and a predictable regulatory framework. Revitalised CBDs, he added, would create more opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic growth.
The governor also called on stakeholders, including investors, business owners, urban planners, and community leaders, to work closely with the government in reimagining Lagos’ CBDs as world-class commercial centres that meet global standards.
The summit brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable strategies for repositioning Lagos’ Central Business Districts as vibrant, competitive, and resilient economic hubs capable of driving long-term growth for the state
