The Lagos State House of Assembly has confirmed several nominees submitted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for appointment into strategic state agencies, following a comprehensive screening exercise held during plenary on Thursday.
The confirmation took place at a sitting presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. During the session, nominees were invited individually to appear before the forty-member legislature, where they underwent screening in line with legislative procedures and constitutional requirements.
Lawmakers engaged the nominees on their professional backgrounds, understanding of their prospective roles, and their vision for contributing to the growth and development of Lagos State if confirmed. The screening process also focused on assessing the nominees’ competence, experience, and readiness to support the policies and programmes of the Sanwo-Olu administration.
Following deliberations, the Assembly confirmed a number of the nominees, expressing confidence in their capacity to add value to the agencies they have been nominated to lead or serve in. However, the House stepped down one nominee, citing the need for further review and consideration. The lawmakers noted that the decision was taken in the interest of due diligence and effective governance.
Speaker Obasa commended members of the House for conducting a thorough and transparent screening process, emphasizing the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that only qualified and capable individuals are entrusted with public office. He reiterated the legislature’s resolve to work closely with the executive arm of government while maintaining its oversight responsibilities.
The confirmation exercise underscores the collaborative relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in Lagos State, aimed at strengthening institutions and improving service delivery. With the confirmed appointments, the Sanwo-Olu administration is expected to further advance its development agenda through effective leadership across key agencies, while the Assembly continues to play its role in safeguarding accountability and good governance.
