The Campaign for Dignity Governance (CDG) has commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the recent electrification project commissioned in Badagry, describing the initiative as a major step toward improving economic activities, youth empowerment, and balanced development across coastal communities in Lagos State.
The commendation was contained in a statement released in Lagos after the group’s leadership meeting to review recent infrastructure projects executed by the Lagos State Government. The statement was signed by the Convener of the group, Razaq Olokoba, who noted that the extension of electricity infrastructure to previously underserved communities clearly shows that the Sanwo-Olu administration is committed to inclusive governance and deliberate development across all parts of the state.
According to Olokoba, the electrification project, delivered through the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in partnership with the Lagos State Electrification Agency, will provide stable power supply to several communities along the Badagry axis through the installation of new distribution towers, upgraded transformers, and extended power lines to areas that have struggled with irregular electricity for years.
He explained that access to reliable electricity remains one of the most important foundations for economic growth, education, and youth empowerment, stressing that many young people in coastal communities depend on stable power supply for vocational work, digital services, small-scale enterprises, and other productive activities that support their livelihoods.
The group stated that the decision of the state government to focus on electrification in Badagry shows that development under the present administration is not limited to the major urban centres alone, but is gradually reaching riverine and border communities where the need for infrastructure is greatest.
Olokoba further noted that stable electricity will help reduce the cost of doing business for traders, artisans, and transport operators who rely heavily on power for their daily operations. He added that improved electricity supply will also support schools, health centres, and community facilities that require constant power to function effectively.
The Campaign for Dignity Governance described the project as part of the broader effort by the Lagos State Government to strengthen independent power capacity and improve energy regulation across the state, adding that such reforms are necessary if Lagos is to maintain its position as the commercial hub of Nigeria and continue to attract investment.
While commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for the initiative, the group urged the state government to sustain the pace of infrastructure development and ensure that more coastal and rural communities benefit from similar projects in the coming months.
The group reaffirmed its support for policies that promote inclusive growth, stating that the electrification of Badagry communities is a clear example of governance that directly touches the lives of ordinary people while creating opportunities for youth, businesses, and local economies to grow under a more stable and modern environment.
