The Lagos State Government has urged civil servants to ensure full compliance with Nigeria’s newly introduced tax law by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), stressing the need for transparency, efficiency and accountability in its implementation.
The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, made the call on Tuesday at the commencement of a two-day training programme on the strategic implications of the new Nigerian tax law for selected civil servants.
The training, organised by the Ministry of Establishments and Training in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), is aimed at strengthening the capacity of public officers to effectively implement the provisions of the new tax legislation.
Addressing participants, Ayantayo said the initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s)“It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this important training programme organised by the Ministry of Establishments and Training in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Today’s programme reflects our commitment to equipping public servants with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the strategic implications of the new Nigerian tax law,” he said.
The commissioner noted that the tax reform represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape and places greater responsibility on public institutions to ensure compliance with the law.
He urged participants to actively engage in the training sessions and apply the knowledge gained to improve tax administration across government agencies.
Ayantayo also emphasised that effective implementation of the new tax law would enhance revenue generation, strengthen public confidence in government institutions and promote sustainable economic development.
The two-day programme is expected to deepen participants’ understanding of the provisions of the tax law, improve institutional compliance and equip civil servants with practical strategies for ensuring efficient and transparent tax administration across Lagos State government MDAs.
