Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment as the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) intensified enforcement against environmental sanitation offenders across the state.
As part of the ongoing exercise, LAWMA sealed several markets, shopping complexes and commercial premises in the Ikotun-Igando axis for persistent violations of environmental sanitation laws. The authority also issued fresh compliance notices to businesses operating along the Ojuelegba-Lawanson-Itire corridor, warning that defaulters would face similar sanctions if they failed to meet the required environmental standards.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the enforcement exercise underscores the state government’s determination to ensure strict compliance with waste management regulations and promote a culture of environmental responsibility among residents and business owners.
He stressed that a clean environment is essential to public health, economic growth and the overall quality of life, urging residents to support government efforts by disposing of waste properly and patronising only approved waste collection operators.
The governor noted that indiscriminate waste disposal, illegal dumping and failure to maintain clean business premises undermine the state’s environmental sustainability goals. He warned that the government would not hesitate to sanction individuals and organisations that violate sanitation laws.
Sanwo-Olu also commended LAWMA for sustaining its enforcement and public awareness campaigns aimed at improving environmental cleanliness across Lagos. He encouraged market leaders, traders, property owners and corporate organisations to comply with sanitation regulations and contribute to keeping the state clean.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed that environmental sanitation remains a shared responsibility, adding that consistent enforcement and public cooperation are critical to achieving a cleaner, safer and more resilient Lagos for present and future generations.
