Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has fulfilled another commitment to residents of Agbowa with the presentation of compensation cheques to property owners whose properties are affected by the proposed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp.
The compensation was paid to residents of Odo Ayandolu and Ota Ikosi communities whose properties will be impacted by the planned development of the NYSC facility.
The governor said the payment demonstrates the commitment of his administration to ensuring that infrastructure development is carried out responsibly while protecting the interests and welfare of residents directly affected by government projects.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the development of critical infrastructure remains necessary to meet the needs of Lagos’ growing population, but such projects must also take into consideration the impact they have on individuals and communities.
He stressed that residents whose properties are acquired or affected by development projects deserve to be treated fairly and compensated appropriately.
Sanwo-Olu described the compensation exercise as another important step toward delivering infrastructure while maintaining fairness, accountability and respect for the people.
He said his administration would continue to pursue projects that support the growth and development of Lagos, while ensuring that the benefits of development are shared across communities.
The governor noted that government’s responsibility extends beyond constructing roads, public facilities and other infrastructure, stressing that the people affected by such projects must remain central to the development process.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a people-oriented approach to governance, where development is balanced with the protection of residents’ legitimate interests.
Sanwo-Olu said the government would continue to engage communities and stakeholders as it implements projects designed to improve infrastructure and create greater opportunities across the state.
He emphasised that the compensation paid to the affected residents reflects the administration’s belief that progress should not come at the expense of fairness and human welfare.
The governor reiterated his vision of building a Lagos where development is inclusive, responsible and beneficial to all residents, ensuring that no community or individual is left behind in the state’s continued growth.
