The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step toward improving public education with the commissioning of a large-scale school project in Ajegunle, reaffirming its commitment to providing quality learning environments for students across the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led the unveiling of the Tolu Schools Complex, a landmark development that brings together 36 primary and secondary schools within a single, well-planned educational hub. Located in the densely populated Ajegunle area, the project is designed to address long-standing challenges such as overcrowded classrooms and limited access to modern educational facilities.
The new complex is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, fully furnished science laboratories, ICT centres, and dedicated spaces for technical and vocational training. These facilities are expected to enhance both teaching and learning experiences, ensuring that students are better prepared for academic success and future career opportunities.
According to the government, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to reposition public education in Lagos as a competitive and inclusive system that meets global standards. By investing in modern infrastructure, the administration aims to bridge the gap between public and private education while also improving enrollment and retention rates among school-age children.
Education stakeholders have described the project as one of the largest integrated school developments in West Africa, noting its potential to serve as a model for other states seeking to upgrade their education systems. The consolidation of multiple schools into a single complex is also expected to improve administrative efficiency and resource management, allowing for better supervision and delivery of educational services.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that education remains a top priority for his administration. He noted that the future of Lagos depends heavily on the quality of its human capital, making it essential to invest in young people through accessible and high-quality education.
Residents of Ajegunle and surrounding communities have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the new facilities will create a more conducive learning environment for their children. Many believe the project will not only improve academic outcomes but also inspire a renewed interest in education among young people.
As Lagos continues to grow as a megacity, initiatives like the Tolu Schools Complex highlight the government’s ongoing efforts to build a stronger, more inclusive future through strategic investments in education.
