The Epe Youth Forum has applauded the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following the state’s historic achievement of surpassing the ₦1.7 trillion revenue mark, describing the milestone as a transformative breakthrough with far-reaching implications for grassroots development, economic inclusion, and community-level progress.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the Coordinator of the group, Adewale Adeosun, described the achievement as a strong indication that Lagos is not only growing economically but is also building the financial capacity required to sustain long-term development across all levels of society.
According to Adeosun, revenue generation at this scale goes beyond government accounting figures — it represents the ability of a state to invest meaningfully in its people, its communities, and its future. “To exceed ₦1.7 trillion in revenue is not just an economic statistic; it is a reflection of governance that is working. It shows that Lagos has built a system that can generate resources internally and deploy them toward development that touches lives at the grassroots,” he stated.
The Epe Youth Forum emphasised that grassroots communities stand to benefit the most from such a milestone, as increased revenue enables the government to expand infrastructure projects, improve public services, and invest in social development initiatives that directly impact everyday life.
The group noted that in many communities, development is measured not by policy announcements but by visible changes — better roads, improved schools, accessible healthcare, and enhanced economic opportunities.
“When government has the resources, communities feel the impact directly. Roads get fixed, schools are upgraded, healthcare becomes more accessible, and local economies begin to thrive. This is where revenue meets reality,” Adeosun added. The group further highlighted that Lagos’ ability to generate this level of revenue reflects a combination of effective tax administration, improved compliance systems, and increased economic activity driven by business growth and investment. It noted that the state has continued to strengthen its revenue framework through digitalisation and transparency, ensuring that processes are more efficient and less prone to leakages.
According to the group, this approach has not only increased revenue but also built public confidence in the system, as citizens are more willing to comply when they see transparency and accountability in governance.
The Epe Youth Forum also stressed the importance of equitable distribution of development, noting that as revenue increases, it is essential for government to ensure that all regions — including semi-urban and rural areas — benefit from the economic progress.
“This achievement presents an opportunity to deepen inclusion. Development must not be concentrated in a few areas; it must reach every community, every local government, and every corner of the state,” the statement noted.
The group further emphasised that sustainable development requires a balance between economic growth and social impact, urging the state government to continue prioritising policies that promote both.
It also called for increased engagement with local communities to ensure that development projects align with the specific needs and priorities of the people.
According to Adeosun, one of the key strengths of Lagos lies in its ability to adapt and innovate, and this must continue as the state seeks to build on its current success.
“Growth must be sustained, and sustainability requires continuous improvement. Lagos has shown that it can lead; now it must continue to innovate and expand its impact,” he said.
The group concluded by reaffirming its support for the Sanwo-Olu administration, noting that the ₦1.7 trillion revenue milestone is a clear indication that Lagos is on a path of structured growth, economic resilience, and inclusive development. “This is a moment that reflects both progress and potential. It shows what is possible when governance is focused, disciplined, and committed to delivering results for the people,” the statement concluded.
