The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the adoption of data-driven governance and strategic planning aimed at improving service delivery and sustainable growth across the state.
The government said the use of accurate data and technology-driven policies has become essential in addressing urban challenges, strengthening public institutions and ensuring that development initiatives meet the needs of residents effectively.
Speaking on the importance of evidence-based governance, state officials noted that Lagos, as one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, requires reliable statistics and digital systems to support decision-making in key sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, housing and environmental sustainability.
According to the government, data collection and analysis are helping policymakers identify priority areas, allocate resources more efficiently and monitor the impact of ongoing projects. This approach, officials said, is improving transparency, accountability and coordination across ministries, departments and agencies.
The state also emphasized the role of technology and innovation in accelerating socio-economic development, adding that investments in digital infrastructure, smart city initiatives and public-private partnerships are contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.
Officials explained that Lagos remains focused on building a resilient and inclusive economy capable of responding to population growth, climate challenges and increasing demand for public services.
The government further stated that collaboration with development partners, research institutions and the private sector will continue to strengthen data management systems and support long-term planning.
With a growing emphasis on innovation and digital transformation, Lagos said it is positioning itself as a model for sustainable urban governance in Africa while advancing policies that promote economic growth, environmental protection and improved quality of life for residents
