The Lagos State Government generated approximately N80 billion in revenue from building approval applications in 2025, highlighting the continued growth of the state’s physical planning and urban development sector.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, disclosed this on Friday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held to commemorate the seventh anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Speaking at the briefing in Lagos, Olumide said the impressive revenue figure reflects increased compliance with building regulations and the growing confidence of investors and property developers in the state’s development framework.
According to the commissioner, the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has continued to strengthen regulatory processes, improve service delivery, and promote sustainable urban growth across Lagos. He noted that the revenue generated from building approvals demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing reforms aimed at creating a more efficient and transparent approval system.
Olumide explained that the ministry has remained committed to ensuring orderly development throughout the state while discouraging illegal constructions and violations of planning laws. He added that the government has intensified efforts to simplify approval procedures, making it easier for residents and developers to obtain the necessary permits for construction projects.
The commissioner further stated that physical planning remains a critical component of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s development agenda, as it helps to support infrastructure expansion, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a well-planned and resilient city capable of accommodating its rapidly growing population.
