
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has received the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Mr. Michel Deelen, on a farewell visit as the diplomat concludes his assignment in Nigeria.
During the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation for Deelen’s contributions to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Lagos State and the Netherlands. He noted that both parties have built a strong and productive partnership over the years, particularly in areas of economic development, infrastructure, and investment promotion.
The governor said the visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress made through bilateral cooperation and to discuss key projects of mutual interest. Among the issues highlighted were the development of Lagos waterways, the Omi Eko project, and ongoing efforts to regenerate and relocate communities in the Okobaba area.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of international partnerships in supporting the state’s development agenda and commended the Dutch government for its continued collaboration with Lagos. He noted that the Netherlands has remained a valuable partner in initiatives aimed at improving transportation, environmental sustainability, and urban development.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Deelen acknowledged the efforts of the Lagos State Government in creating an enabling environment for businesses and investors. He praised the administration’s commitment to policies and projects designed to attract investment and drive economic growth.
The governor reiterated his administration’s determination to strengthen ties with international partners and leverage global expertise to address urban challenges and unlock new opportunities for residents.
As Mr. Deelen prepares to take up a new diplomatic posting, Sanwo-Olu thanked him for his service and dedication throughout his tenure in Nigeria. He wished the outgoing Consul General success in his future endeavors and expressed confidence that the cordial relationship between Lagos and the Netherlands would continue to flourish in the years ahead
