Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday joined family members, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate the 75th birthday of business mogul and philanthropist, Apostle Folorunso Alakija.
The Governor described Apostle Alakija as a true icon of leadership whose impact has been felt across Lagos and Nigeria for decades. Speaking at the celebration, Sanwo-Olu said her life story remains a source of inspiration to young entrepreneurs, women in business, and countless Nigerians who look up to her for guidance.
“Over the decades, Apostle Folorunso Alakija has been a pillar of strength and a deep source of inspiration for so many in Lagos and across the nation,” the Governor said. “Her journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most respected business leaders in Africa shows what vision, hard work, and faith can achieve.”
He noted that beyond her success in business, Apostle Alakija is widely admired for her commitment to lifting others. Through her philanthropic initiatives, she has supported education, healthcare, women empowerment, and faith-based causes that have touched thousands of lives.
“Her dedication to lifting others up remains remarkable,” Sanwo-Olu added. “In a time when many focus only on personal gain, she has consistently chosen the path of service, generosity, and mentorship. That is the kind of leadership Lagos and Nigeria need.”
The Governor prayed for more grace, strength, and good health for the celebrant as she begins a new chapter. He expressed optimism that she will continue to contribute meaningfully to national development and to the growth of the next generation of leaders.
“On behalf of the government and good people of Lagos State, I pray that this new chapter brings her even more joy, good health, and the grace to continue her great work,” he said.
The birthday celebration was attended by prominent traditional rulers, religious leaders, captains of industry, and members of the diplomatic community who all paid tribute to Apostle Alakija’s legacy of excellence, faith, and giving back to society.
Apostle Folorunso Alakija, founder of Famfa Oil and the Rose of Sharon Foundation, turns 75 as one of Nigeria’s most influential women in business and philanthropy.
