Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has presented compensation worth N3.1 billion to 331 property owners whose lands and buildings were acquired for major infrastructure projects across the state.
The beneficiaries are property owners in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba, where the state government is undertaking strategic road construction and other public infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic growth.
Speaking during the presentation, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the compensation reflects the government’s commitment to fairness, accountability and respect for the rights of residents affected by development initiatives. He stressed that while Lagos must continue expanding its infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing population, the interests of those who make sacrifices for these projects must also be protected.
The governor explained that every compensation claim was subjected to a thorough verification process to ensure that only the rightful owners received payment. According to him, the exercise demonstrates the administration’s resolve to uphold due process and transparency in the acquisition of land for public use.
Sanwo-Olu noted that behind every acquired property is a family, a home or a business whose livelihood is impacted by government projects. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the affected property owners and expressed appreciation for their understanding and cooperation.
He added that although the infrastructure projects will ultimately benefit millions of Lagos residents by improving transportation, boosting commerce and enhancing the quality of life, the government remains committed to treating every affected citizen with dignity and fairness.
The governor reaffirmed that his administration would continue to honour its promise of responsible governance by ensuring that development is pursued alongside justice, accountability and equitable compensation for residents whose properties are acquired in the public interest.
