Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerian youths to embrace innovation, resilience and a solution-driven mindset, urging them to focus on opportunities rather than dwelling on the country’s challenges.
The governor made the call while delivering the 2026 Convocation Lecture at Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, where he addressed graduating students and encouraged them to prepare for leadership roles in a rapidly changing world.
Sanwo-Olu said Nigeria’s future rests in the hands of young people who are willing to think creatively, adapt to change and contribute positively to national development. He noted that the country’s abundant opportunities can be unlocked through hard work, integrity and a commitment to continuous learning.
According to the governor, while challenges exist, young Nigerians should not allow them to define their aspirations. Instead, they should develop the skills, character and resilience needed to create solutions, build successful careers and make meaningful contributions to society.
He urged the graduates to remain curious, embrace innovation and maintain strong ethical values, stressing that integrity and excellence are essential qualities for anyone seeking to make a lasting impact.
Sanwo-Olu also encouraged the youths to see themselves as agents of change capable of transforming their communities and the nation through entrepreneurship, technology, public service and other productive ventures.
The governor expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying his interaction with the graduating students reinforced his confidence that the country is raising a generation of talented, determined and visionary leaders.
He commended the management of Babcock University for its commitment to academic excellence and character development, describing the institution as one that continues to nurture responsible and globally competitive graduates.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated the graduating class on reaching an important milestone and wished them success as they begin the next phase of their lives, expressing confidence that they would make valuable contributions to Nigeria and the global community.
