The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified efforts to clear waste backlogs and curb indiscriminate dumping across the Ayobo-Ipaja axis, with enforcement operations leading to the sealing of markets and plazas found guilty of environmental violations.
The latest intervention was carried out by the LAWMA Project WISE team covering the Ikeja West District, as part of ongoing efforts to promote compliance with the State’s environmental regulations and maintain a cleaner Lagos.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the enforcement operation, conducted on Sunday, focused on facilities around the Ayobo-Ipaja axis that had repeatedly violated environmental regulations and failed to comply with directives issued by the Authority.
He explained that the enforcement became necessary following persistent cases of improper waste disposal and other environmental infractions recorded in the affected locations.
Among the facilities sealed during the operation were Rock of Age Plaza, Ajerogun I Market, Ayobo Market and Oba Plaza, all located within the Ayobo area.
Gbadegesin reiterated LAWMA’s commitment to enforcing environmental standards across Lagos State, stressing that businesses, markets, plazas and other establishments must take responsibility for proper waste management and comply with approved disposal procedures.
He urged residents, traders and business owners across the Ayobo-Ipaja axis to support the Authority’s efforts by ensuring proper waste disposal and avoiding practices that could undermine the cleanliness and environmental sustainability of their communities.
LAWMA, he added, would continue to sustain enforcement and public sanitation interventions across the State to ensure that Lagos remains clean, healthy and environmentally sustainable.
