Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development with the inauguration of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Maiden National Intermediate Games (NIG) Lagos 2026.
The governor made this known while receiving members of the Main Organising Committee of the National Intermediate Games on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.
Speaking during the meeting, Sanwo-Olu described the forthcoming competition as a significant platform for discovering and nurturing young sporting talents across Nigeria. He noted that the National Intermediate Games would not only promote healthy competition among young athletes but also contribute to the growth of sports at the grassroots level.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the governor officially inaugurated the Local Organising Committee, charging members to work diligently to ensure the successful hosting of the event. He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a world-class competition that would reflect Lagos State’s reputation for excellence in hosting major sporting and national events.
Sanwo-Olu assured the organisers of the state government’s full support, emphasizing that Lagos remains committed to creating opportunities for young people to excel in sports and other productive ventures.
According to him, the National Intermediate Games Lagos 2026 will serve as a springboard for emerging athletes to showcase their talents, gain exposure, and pursue greater achievements in their sporting careers.
The governor further stated that the event aligns with his administration’s vision of investing in youth development and building a stronger sports ecosystem capable of producing future champions for Nigeria.
He expressed optimism about the prospects of the games, noting that Lagos is prepared to demonstrate its capacity to host an exceptional tournament while inspiring a new generation of athletes.
“We are fully committed to making NIG Lagos 2026 a resounding success,” the governor said. “Great opportunities lie ahead for our young athletes, and Lagos is ready to lead the way.”
