
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the importance of mental wellness, emotional stability, and strong family values in enhancing the effectiveness and well-being of military personnel.
She made the call at the maiden edition of the SHINE Seminar, organized as part of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy. The event brought together naval officers’ wives, mental health professionals, etiquette experts, and distinguished guests for a day dedicated to personal development, reflection, and learning.
Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the often-overlooked emotional and psychological demands placed on military personnel and their families. She noted that maintaining sound mental health and supportive family relationships is essential for individuals serving in high-pressure environments.
The seminar, themed SHINE — Self-Control, Humility, Integrity, Inner Balance, Nurturing Relationships and Emotional Stability, focused on equipping participants with practical tools for building resilience, fostering healthy relationships, and maintaining emotional well-being.
According to the First Lady, strong family structures and emotional support systems play a crucial role in helping military officers perform their duties effectively while coping with the challenges associated with service.
