The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training (OLGE&T), has commenced its 2026 Capacity Building Workshop for officers in the Unified Local Government Service as part of efforts to strengthen public service performance and improve governance at the grassroots.
The workshop, which began on Monday, August 3, 2026, is taking place at the OLGE&T Training School, Old Secretariat, G.R.A., Ikeja, bringing together officers from across the Unified Local Government Service for intensive professional development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishments and Training, Toyin Ogunlana, reaffirmed the Office’s commitment to equipping officers with the knowledge, skills and competencies required for efficient and effective service delivery.
She explained that the workshop was carefully designed to enhance the competence, capacity and professionalism of participants, enabling them to respond more effectively to the evolving demands of public administration and grassroots governance.
Ogunlana noted that the initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s commitment to continuous human capital development through strategic training and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving productivity and institutional performance.
She added that investing in the professional development of local government officers remains critical to building a more responsive, efficient and citizen-focused public service capable of delivering quality services across all local government areas in the state.
The capacity-building programme forms part of the State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the Unified Local Government Service and ensure that officers are adequately prepared to contribute to sustainable development and improved service delivery for Lagos residents.
