Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has received the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina, where they discussed environmental challenges and strategies to strengthen climate resilience in the state.
The meeting focused on the environmental realities facing Lagos as a coastal state, particularly the effects of tidal activities and rising water levels on communities and infrastructure.
Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government in developing practical and sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.
The Governor noted that Lagos remains exposed to climate-related risks because of its coastal location, making proactive planning and long-term investment essential to protecting residents and communities.
According to him, his administration has continued to implement measures aimed at improving the state’s ability to adapt to the changing climate and respond effectively to environmental threats.
He highlighted the need to protect vulnerable communities while strengthening infrastructure and other systems required to safeguard the state against the impact of flooding, tidal surges and rising water levels.
Sanwo-Olu said the government would continue to pursue sustainable interventions that address both immediate environmental concerns and long-term climate risks.
He added that stronger cooperation among relevant government agencies and stakeholders would help Lagos develop more effective responses to environmental challenges.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a more resilient Lagos, noting that protecting lives, communities and critical infrastructure remains a key priority in securing the state’s future.
