Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has urged Nigerian managers and professionals to embrace innovation, promote ethical leadership and strengthen institutions capable of navigating the country’s rapidly evolving economic and technological landscape.
Sanwo-Olu made the call on Thursday at the 65th Anniversary Dinner and Awards Night of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was themed, “Leading Through Transformation: The Human Element in Modern Leadership.”
The Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, warned that professionals who fail to adapt to emerging changes risk being left behind in an increasingly competitive environment.
He noted that the need for stronger leadership and institutional capacity had become more urgent as organisations across both the public and private sectors contend with disruptions caused by digital transformation, shifting global markets and growing demands for accountability and efficiency.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that modern leadership must go beyond technical competence, stressing the importance of human values, integrity, adaptability and a commitment to building institutions that can withstand changing circumstances.
He encouraged members of the Nigerian Institute of Management and other professionals to continually develop their skills, embrace new technologies and adopt innovative approaches to problem-solving.
According to him, Nigeria’s ability to successfully navigate its rapidly changing environment depends largely on the capacity of its leaders and professionals to anticipate change, respond effectively and create sustainable institutions.
The Governor also commended the Nigerian Institute of Management for its contributions to professional development, leadership capacity building and the advancement of management practice in Nigeria over the past 65 years.
