Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, integrity and responsive leadership, stressing that democracy can only thrive when leaders remain accountable and dedicated to the welfare of the people.
Sanwo-Olu made the remarks while joining members of the Yoruba Tennis Club at the Centenary Lecture and Seminar Series organised to commemorate the club’s 100th anniversary.
The lecture, delivered by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, focused on “Democracy and the Imperative of Good Governance in Challenging Times.”
The Lagos Governor noted that the theme was particularly relevant to the current realities facing democratic societies, emphasising the need for leaders to uphold integrity and remain committed to serving the people.
According to him, democracy is strengthened when leadership is driven by honesty, accountability and a genuine desire to improve the lives of citizens.
Sanwo-Olu also stressed the importance of listening to the people and continuously working to earn their confidence and trust.
He said leadership comes with the responsibility to respond to the concerns and aspirations of the people, adding that his administration would continue to uphold this principle in Lagos.
The governor congratulated the Yoruba Tennis Club on reaching its centenary milestone, describing the occasion as an opportunity to celebrate the club’s long history and contributions to society.
He reiterated that his commitment to the people of Lagos remains unwavering, promising to continue supporting policies and initiatives aimed at promoting good governance and sustainable development across the state.
