Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday received the 46th Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Ikeja, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Navy.
The visit underscored the long-standing partnership between Lagos State and the Nigerian Navy, particularly in the areas of maritime security, safety of waterways, and regional stability. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Navy for its critical role in protecting Nigeria’s coastal assets, curbing maritime crime, and ensuring safe passage for commercial and private water transport within Lagos and beyond.
During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views on evolving security challenges along Lagos waterways, the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation, and opportunities to deepen joint efforts that enhance public safety and economic activities tied to the maritime sector. The Governor noted that as Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos depends heavily on secure waterways to drive trade, tourism, and investment.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to continue working closely with the Nigerian Navy to support initiatives that promote safety, security, and efficiency across the state’s coastal and inland waters. He emphasized that effective maritime security remains a shared responsibility, requiring strong partnerships between federal security institutions and subnational governments.
Rear Admiral Mustapha, in his remarks, commended the Lagos State Government for its consistent support of security agencies and its proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property. He assured the Governor of the Western Naval Command’s continued commitment to maintaining peace and security within its area of responsibility, particularly in Lagos, which plays a strategic role in Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The courtesy visit further reinforced the mutual resolve of both parties to sustain cooperation in the interest of Lagos State and the nation at large.
