
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Lagos into a globally competitive city-state, emphasizing that the state has moved beyond the ambition of becoming merely a regional economic powerhouse.
Speaking at the Citadel School of Government Geo-Economic Optimization Summit, Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration is focused on building a Lagos that can compete effectively with leading cities around the world in terms of economic opportunities, infrastructure, innovation, and quality of life.
According to the governor, achieving this vision requires deliberate planning, strategic investments, and consistent efforts to create an environment that attracts local and international investors. He noted that while the goal is ambitious, the state government remains committed to doing the hard work necessary to position Lagos as a major global destination for business and investment.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted ongoing investments in critical infrastructure, including transportation networks, urban development projects, and initiatives aimed at improving the ease of doing business. He stated that these efforts are designed to support economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the state.
The governor also stressed the importance of leveraging Lagos’ unique strengths, including its large population, entrepreneurial culture, and strategic location, to drive sustainable development and long-term prosperity.
He explained that the administration’s vision extends beyond physical infrastructure to include human capital development, innovation, and policies that encourage private sector participation in economic growth.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that with continued collaboration between government, businesses, and stakeholders, Lagos is well-positioned to emerge as one of the world’s leading city economies.
The governor reiterated that every investment and policy initiative undertaken by his administration is geared towards securing a prosperous future for residents while strengthening Lagos’ status as Africa’s premier economic hub and a globally recognized city-state.
