Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has successfully resolved the industrial dispute involving members of the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANM), Lagos State Council, following a closed-door meeting held at the Lagos House, Marina.
The meeting, convened by the governor, was aimed at addressing the grievances raised by the nurses and finding a lasting solution to the issues affecting the state’s healthcare workforce.
During the engagement, representatives of the nurses presented their concerns, while the governor assured them of his administration’s commitment to the welfare of healthcare professionals and the continued improvement of the health sector.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the critical role nurses play in delivering quality healthcare services to residents, describing them as the backbone of the state’s healthcare system. He stressed that their dedication and sacrifices, particularly during challenging periods, have contributed significantly to the growth and resilience of the health sector in Lagos.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to maintain open dialogue with workers and professional bodies, noting that constructive engagement remains the best approach to resolving labour-related issues.
Following extensive discussions, both parties reached an understanding, bringing an end to the dispute and restoring industrial harmony within the state’s health sector.
The resolution is expected to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services across government-owned hospitals and medical facilities in Lagos, providing relief to residents who depend on public health institutions for medical care.
Sanwo-Olu thanked the leadership and members of the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives for embracing dialogue and demonstrating professionalism throughout the negotiations. He also assured them that the state government would continue to prioritise the welfare, training and professional development of healthcare workers.
The governor reiterated that his administration remains committed to strengthening the healthcare system through sustained investments in infrastructure, equipment and human capital development, while fostering a peaceful and productive working relationship with all categories of public sector workers in Lagos State.
