
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been formally decorated as the Patron of the Lagos State Scout Council, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development, leadership training, and social inclusion.
The decoration ceremony took place at Lagos House, Marina, where members of the Scout Association of Nigeria and the Lagos State Scout Council honoured the governor in recognition of his support for initiatives aimed at empowering young people.
Speaking during the event, Sanwo-Olu commended the Scout Association of Nigeria for its long-standing contribution to nation-building through the promotion of discipline, character development, leadership, and community service among young people. He noted that for more than a century, the organisation has played a significant role in shaping responsible citizens and preparing future leaders.
The governor emphasized that youth development remains a key priority of his administration, stressing that investing in young people is essential for the sustainable growth and progress of Lagos State. According to him, the state government, through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, will continue to support programmes and platforms that promote social inclusion, skills development, leadership training, and meaningful opportunities for children and youths.
Sanwo-Olu stated that empowering young people with the right values and opportunities would help them become productive members of society and contribute positively to the state’s development agenda.
He expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Lagos State Scout Council, particularly the State Scout Commissioner, Alhaji Olohuntoyin Adebesin, and other council members for the honour bestowed on him.
The governor pledged to continue working closely with the Scout Association and other youth-focused organisations to advance initiatives that inspire excellence, encourage civic responsibility, and strengthen the future of the state’s younger generation.
He added that building a greater Lagos requires sustained investment in young people, who remain the foundation of the state’s future prosperity and success.
